Home sweet home

After months of haunt we finally found what we were looking for. A perfect new home in Töölö. When we came to see it for the first time, I completely fell in love with it. The house was built in the 20's and the apartment has beautiful bay windows, round walkways and a dark wooden floor. The place is also at a very practical location for the both of us. My university is just behind the corner and the city centre a few minute walk from here. Sounds nice, right?

Well, I have to admit that I was probably a bit blinded by love.. :D There are a few minor flaws that I need to fix and some weird solutions that need re-thinking. Especially in the kitchen.

The kitchen is small and if I owned the apartment, I would change it completely. The kitchen counters are placed in an unpractical way and one of the counters is actually not that well attached. The fridge was probably just brought in and put there, where it was the easiest to put. I'm not sure whether it's worth having the effort of fixing the kitchen since we're only renting the place. Anyway, one thing that really bugged me was the color of the kitchen walls. Moomin house blue :D If I had had some white paint in the first place, I would have painted the walls right away. Now that I've been watching it for a week, I'm slowly starting to get used to it. Uh Oh...

Also, there's an old kitchen cupboard, big and tall and most likely built on the 20's like the house itself. I don't mind the fact that it looks old, but I do mind the holes that each shelf has on the back. The shelves just don't match with the triangular shape of the cupboard itself and I'm gonna have a pile of broken dishes on the bottom of the cupboard if I don't fix this issue asap.

At the moment it's difficult to tell how the place will look like after some serious decoration and furnishing, because we (I) haven't my up our (my) mind yet ;) I was thinking of getting a round dining table right in front of the pretty, round bay window, but I haven't found anything suitable yet. I don't want to have anything too chunky and heavy-looking here so I think a glass table would be good option.

The bay window and plus a bed completely misplaced here

The bay window, this time accompanied by a misplaced kitchen clock
I realized that I haven't actually got any pictures that would give a nice, general overview of the apartment. I have a lot of random pictures taken from details. And they're all taken in a bad lighting and so the quality is poor as well. Anyway, here are the random pics, which might give an idea of how it looks like here. Or not :)

Nevermind the mess but this is what I mean by the beautiful round walkways
I wonder what I was trying to photograph here..

As soon as I have something new to show, I'll take a set of new pictures. In daylight. And with an actual camera - not with my macbook's photo booth :D First, there's some serious unpacking to do. And shopping for a table. And a couch. Gosh.

The number one decoration and sight at the moment - cardboard boxes

  1. ooh looks so nice!!! i love the round walkways and the bay window!!! And the kitchen looks very cute - i mean, come on, could be a lot worse than Moomin house blue :D I have tons of questions, but maybe I'll just wait until I see it with my own eyes, sooon :) But that's so exciting you get to start shopping for new furniture and plan the decoration and everything, I'm sure it will look awesome!! I'm desperately waiting for the moment I get to live in a home that looks like my own again and spending so much time already reading interior design blogs to get inspired :P So frankly, I'm soooo jealous!!!! :D
