Last weekend we took a bus to the south coast of Ireland and stayed two nights in the city of Cork. We arrived late on Friday night and when we got to our hostel, it was already dark. So no sightseeing and walking around anymore, but instead we went to check out some local pubs, which we were supposed to be one of the best ones in the country.
Quinness, of course. I was able to drink 1/4 of the pint before giving it to a friend and switching to cider.
We went to a couple different pubs and decided to stay in a place where people seemed to bee on a good mood and partying like there's no tomorrow. At first it seemed like a cool place, they played classic rock hits from the past decades and we were all dancing to the music. At some point, however, they started playing horrific modern rock and even death metal and it was impossible to dance anymore. Haha, when they played BYOB (below) and a bunch of other similar songs we gave up and left back to the hostel.
System of a Down - BYOB
On saturday we did a whole lot of sightseeing. At first we visited this English market that sold all kinds of fresh food products and looked for a nice breakfast cafe there.
Delicious cheese
A glimpse from the market square, our cafe is upstairs
My breakfast was nothing special, but the cup of coffee probably one of the best I've ever had
After breakfast we starting walking around the city. I think the colorful houses that they have everywhere are just so cute. I haven't seen two houses next to each other that would have been of a similar color.
Cork city centre
Trying to figure out where to go next
Walking across the city
On out Cork city tour we saw a lot of churches, a jail, University College Cork, visited a local museum and a couple of pubs. I don't mind walking, but I had new shoes on that I had never worn before, so my feet started hurting like hell after a couple of kilometers. So every now and then I had to change the high-heeled boots on and when I couldn't walk with them anymore, back to the new sneakers. Somehow I managed to do the whole tour without any blisters or twisted ankles, but I gotta admit that I should have listened to my mom and pack flat shoes in my luggage when I left from Helsinki.. :D
Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral
University College Cork
Just in front of the local museum: the ugliest statue I've ever seen. Their main attraction I guess ;)
Cork City Gaeol - the jailhouse
In the evening we had dinner in a pub, again, and finally ended up in proper nightclub. It was a lot of fun and we all just danced together. I also challenged my russian friend to have a vodka competition with me and obviously had to leave back to the hostel to sleep after my defeat :D
Apple liqueur shots for the group
Luckily the last picture has got nothing to do with that idiotic competition. It's a set of really bad apple liqueur shots for the whole group.
